About the Business

Asheville Pet Supply was opened in June of 1991 with just one store front in its present location. Mary and Bob Hourihan moved the mountains of Asheville to enjoy the county life. Mary always had a houseful of animals and thought it would be cheaper to own the store than to buy all their food. Being in retail is a family tradition she enjoyed f rom childhood. Her father Louis Dunlap owned the General Store in Elk Park, NC in the 1950's. She always believed in the holistic approach to pet care. She found many foods had additives, chemicals and low quality ingredients. Mary found herself in uncharted waters. She would read and learn as much as she could about all the ingredients put in pet food. There were a few companies producing good food at that time. She would teach and train her family and staff the ins and outs of the business. Keith Henline, their son-in-law, would come to the store eventually as the manager. He too has a passion for quality pet products. The store has been a blessing to many customers that needed help. Asheville Pet Supply is still family owned and operated until this day. Mary still works daily and helps with her vast knowledge of pet products. Bob passed away several years ago but Mary continued on for love of pets. We continue to be here for all your needs for loving your pets.
